GIRLS, INTERRUPTED - CURRENTLY IN POST PRODUCTION
While staying at their parents house for the summer, a recent college graduate is continuously thwarted in their attempt to rewatch HBO’s Girls.
Miller, our protagonist, is thrust back into their small midwestern town as they enter a stage of inevitable post-college listlessness. Having completely reinvented themselves since leaving the state for school, Miller is confronted by people of their past, namely Miller’s ex best friend from high school, Lorelai, and her younger brother, Jett. Lorelai tells people her favorite character is Shoshana and her favorite character is Shosh. Jett is giving if Adam was properly medicated and loved video games. He has never heard of Girls. Miller tells people their favorite character is Jessa, but it’s actually Hannah.
Centering old basements full of messy, disorganized DVD collections, and set against a mundane, empty American town, Girls, Interrupted captures the inevitable nostalgia, reflection, humor, and fear of officially leaving one’s childhood behind.
Specifically, this project sets out to depict the sheer frivolity of going through such lengths to revisit a television show, and how it’s sometimes easier to return to a piece of media than it is to the people we knew in the past. Many people of our generation feel set adrift by the alienation of what human interaction has become and the ongoing crises around them, but the way they cope is not always the most productive or makes the most sense. Relating to these real and sometimes silly feelings, Girls, Interrupted lovingly makes fun of these attempts to hear ourselves when we shout into the void. The creators and the characters are aware of how our problems can be both a bit meaningless and genuinely sad and sweet at the same time -- it's all both.
